As you can easily see on our site and in our postings, everything revolves around vintage fashion for us. However, many who are new to the term may not be entirely clear what vintage clothing actually is, and what exactly vintage actually is and how it differs from retro styles. So in this blog post you get the clarification…

What is vintage fashion?

Vintage fashion refers to clothes that are old, i.e. were mostly produced before the turn of the millennium. This is often confused with vintage style or retro style - but these are only garments that are modeled after the original vintage , which are actually new but mimic old designs and a bygone era.

There is also the vintage style , which wants to create the old and used look in new clothing or furnishings. This includes, for example, items of clothing with a used look, i.e. faded jeans with tears and jackets with patches.

But real vintage clothing includes much more than that: this includes old sweaters and hoodies , track jackets, T-shirts and much more from the vintage sportswear area.

Where can you buy vintage fashion?

Vintage fashion is very hard to find. You often know the second-hand shop on the corner, but after a long search you will only find clothes from Zara, H&M, Primark etc. from the last 2-5 years. In order to get hold of original vintage fashion from the 60s to the 2000s, you either have to search for a long time in these shops or look on the internet.

We at Peeces have made it our mission to eliminate exactly this and mostly only sell vintage clothes from the 80s and older in our shop. We always check the pieces for age and thus for authenticity and put them in a prepared condition. So you can be sure that you will always buy vintage from us! So feel free to drop by the shop:

Are vintage fashion and second hand the same thing?

99% of the time, everything vintage is second hand , but not everything second hand is vintage. Means that second-hand only describes the condition of the clothes - i.e. a used piece of clothing. You can find a lot of second-hand items in boutiques or at flea markets, for example. However, vintage fashion is used and also very old clothing.

When is clothing vintage fashion?

As stated above, there are guidelines here - vintage clothing describes clothing that is at least from the 90's or even older. However, there is no precise indication of when something is considered a vintage item. You shouldn't get too stuck on any year numbers here, since everyone usually has a different opinion of it. But roughly speaking, anything from before 2000 is definitely vintage. This can usually be seen from the labels on the pieces from popular sportswear brands such as Nike or Adidas , which looked different in different years of production. We will soon be publishing a blog post about this.
